BLOX is located on Copenhagen’s harbourfront between the Black Diamond and Langebro. With BLOX, the city has gained an open and welcoming setting for everyday life, with new recreational urban spaces, a public playground, rental housing, a café, restaurant and fitness centre in one of the Danish capital's oldest neighbourhoods.

Description

A building with flow

The design of BLOX puts the building in direct interaction with the city, creating spaces and directing flow under, through and around it. The vehicle traffic along Christians Brygge flows through the building around the clock. Pedestrians can easily pass around and under BLOX, thereby creating safe passages where previously there was only busy traffic.

Flexible design

The building is located on a large square that ties into the rest of the city. The surface is made up of simple yet robust concrete with a broom finish, a choice that architecturally complements the glossy exterior of the building. The square is flexible with room for traffic flow, seating areas for outdoor dining, sunken water areas and a playground.

A promenade with room for exercising

Along the harbourfront lies a large promenade with a terraced concrete pavement which creates informal seating and exercise possibilities. In addition, the promenade contains a large playground and a wooden jetty which offer lots of opportunities for activities along the wide stretch.
