Vangede Bygade
Info
Description
A library, shops and housing
Vangede is especially known as the hometown of Danish writer Dan Turèll, who painted a picture of daily life there in his book ‘Vangede Billeder’. It is precisely that pleasant everyday atmosphere that 1:1 Landskab has sought to capture in the renovation of the main pedestrian street, which contains shops, supermarkets, a library and residential blocks.
Using trees to create structure
A row of rowan trees uniformly planted in specially designed grills run from one end of the pedestrian street to another, mitigating the previously ‘disorderly’ street flow with buildings that vary in terms of facades and heights. The tree grills are made from wrought iron and also demarcate parking zones along the street.
Small squares with Dan Turèll quotes
In front of the local Super Brugsen grocery store and library, the pavement has been expanded to create small squares with black custom-made concrete slabs. These are interspersed with Dan Turèll quotes engraved in iron plates. A round bench stands around the existing hawthorn at the library square, while robinia trees add a dash of green to the square in front of Super Brugsen. To the north, Vangede Bygade ends at Dan Turèlls Plads, where the long curved bench makes for an excellent spot to take a quick break.
