Tscherning HQ

From demolished mink farms to a new arrival. At Tscherning, the arrival area is shaped by what was already there and what could be reused.

The paving brings together different granite tiles, reclaimed bricks, and an existing cover from the site. The granite tiles mark the entrance in a mosaic of varying formats and shades. Grass reinforcement in the guest parking area keeps the transition green and open.

The former grassy areas have been converted into a wildflower meadow. Rainwater from roofs and paved surfaces is directed to a new ditch, where it is delayed and allowed to infiltrate. During dry periods, the ditch becomes part of the meadow.

Old mink cages have been given a new function as insect hotels. They are filled with leftover materials that provide shelter for insects and are placed close to apple trees, blackberry bushes, and meadow flowers, where both birds and insects find food.

The project demonstrates that reuse does not have to be an added layer. It can be what shapes the place. Here, the decision to avoid new materials is not a limitation, but a quality that gives the arrival area character and a sense of grounding.
