An old scrapyard and a municipal peninsula are set to be transformed over the next 5–10 years into a modern urban district right by the scenic Drammen Fjord. In collaboration, 1:1 Landskab and DRMA have developed a contemporary urban masterplan.

Description

Fjord Park
The district’s unique location by the fjord is used to maximize natural and recreational value. The fjord park stretches across both land and water. The transition between the two creates unique experiences, as a marine landscape of above- and underwater habitats is linked with a recreational route along the shoreline. A new promenade will contribute to a vibrant urban life with seating steps, cafés, and opportunities for swimming. A network of walking and cycling paths offers safe and scenic access to the fjord. The park aims to improve water quality, enhance marine conditions, serve as storm surge protection, and connect the city with the water—giving locals better access to the fjord.

Room for People
A well-functioning city is full of life—and rich in diverse public spaces. The public spaces in the new district will vary in scale, atmosphere, function, and materiality, shifting between hard and soft landscapes to support the specific type of urban life envisioned for each location.

Lush living on the peninsula
The new district is designed with lush spaces, narrow streets, and a network of paths—placing residents in the heart of nature’s everyday surprises. The paths in the courtyards are made of gravel and natural stone to preserve a natural feel. The planting is inspired by the landscapes of the fjords, using native species. As a complement, fruit trees and other edible plants are added, offering rich experiences for people while serving as food sources for local wildlife.
