Description
The Restored Castle
Part of the project entails a partial restoration of the 1000-year-old Viking castle, which was Harald Bluetooth’s seat of power, close to its original location. The idea is to ensure that future museum guests get an authentic encounter with the Viking Age during their visit.
The purpose of a reconstruction of a section of Trelleborg Castle is to provide a 1:1 understanding of its size and impregnability thanks to its rampart and moat with a bridge and palisade. The castle’s circular rampart will be recreated in a quarter slice, demonstrating how the castle towered over the landscape and how the gates opened, providing a spatial understanding of what life was like there 1000 years ago.
