1:1 Landskab has designed a natural hub
A number of historical properties lie nestled between Købmagergade and Pilestræde in Copenhagen, neighbouring the Round Tower and Trinitatis Church. These properties have housed everything from a porcelain factory and merchant’s manor to a university through the years, and now, they are being converted to a spectacular 4-star boutique hotel with retail shops and apartments. At the centre of it all, 1:1 Landskab has designed a fairytale courtyard space: The Secret Garden.
Like stepping into a fairytale
An ornamental pattern of yellow and brown bricks folds through the courtyard, serving as a carpet. The unique pattern adds identity to the courtyard and a fairytale-like experience as one steps into the Secret Garden. At the same time, the pattern provides visual value for the surrounding buildings. Beds of shrubs and perennials meander through the courtyard, creating different spaces for breaks, relaxation and gathering. Less private zones also emerge out of the layout of the planting.
Bushes and herb garden
The raised beds hold different species of bushes that provide lots of visual variation over the course of the year. Pruning and shaping is restricted to the globe shaped box shrubs, which create a contrast to the rest of the diverse planting. Located beside a large break area, a circular and fragrant herb garden offers a bounty of fresh herbs that can be plucked for the table.
