The courtyard serves as a multifunctional outdoor space, primarily as an intimate social gathering point for the residents while at the same time as an aesthetic element providing a visual experience when seen from the kitchen windows.
The ‘carpet’ was chosen as a motif because of its personal expression, and the coziness and homely values associated with it. The paving pattern is inspired by the many carvings and ornaments seen on the housing facades in Østerbro, but through a carefully customized design it has gained its own unique identity. The climbing plants, the flower pots and the adoring fountain create an almost southern European atmosphere, and in the summertime the courtyard becomes an extension of the residents’ private living rooms.
